Kyser George

Sitting in on his father’s band practices from the week his parents brought him home from the hospital, Kyser George, 10*, of Westfield, North Carolina, grew up immersed in Stokes County’s rich music heritage.  Kyser received his first instrument, a mandolin, at the age of six. It quickly became evident that the rhythm section is Kyser’s niche and it wasn’t long until he discovered his love of the upright bass, which he currently plays with his youth band, ShadowGrass. In addition, Kyser is a self-taught guitarist, often playing for various school programs, and is the drummer and percussionist for his church. Kyser has been blessed to have the opportunity to grow up playing with some of the more influential bluegrass musicians of the area including Jimmy Haley, of the original Doyle Lawson & Quick Silver, Hersie McMillan and Jeff Hooker of Southbound, and bluegrass Gospel group, Crossroad.  Kyser has also had the opportunity to perform with musicians outside of bluegrass, most notably, sitting in on drums and percussion with local beach music group, The Not Bros. Band.  In addition to playing music, Kyser also enjoys playing basketball, baseball, camping, fishing and hunting.
